Since 2022, I have had the immense privilege of founding and collaborating within Sacred Garden Free Learners—a unique, intentional interfaith micro-community of independent educators.  We are a collaborative group of educators facilitating a private educational experience for our children in an outside-of-the-box way. The community we serve (by bolstering alternative educational programming) within the network of our North Suburbs of Chicago Home School Group extends to over 480 families. Our micro-community within Sacred Garden Free Learners, is much more about navigating the smaller-scale group experience and nurturing long lasting relationships together, and is purposefully small, never larger than 30 or so families.

Operating part-time, our program beautifully bridges the gap between individual home education and collective, place-based learning. We operate on a firm foundation of educational liberty, relational safety, and pluralism. We deeply respect individual, self-directed paths by prioritizing complete philosophical autonomy at home—whether participating families practice Charlotte Mason, Unschooling, Waldorf, Montessori, or a tailored blend.

Sacred Garden Free Learners brings diverse families together to form deep, long-term relationships. In beautiful natural settings, children from various alternative backgrounds thrive through immersive group activities, celebrations, traditions, variety showcases, superb learning experiences, and shared field trips. Here, families experience the rich benefits of social connection and nature-based exploration, all while maintaining their philosophical independence.

Existing partnerships, where custom programming for our students is enjoyed by Sacred Garden Free Learners on a regular basis include:
Chicago Botanic Gardens, Rivertrail Nature Center, Heller Nature Center, Sommer North Equestrian Center, First Ascent (Rock Climbing), Just For Fun (Roller Skating Rink), The Metropolis School for the Performing Arts.

Our children regularly enjoy world class experiences with hands-on projects together. Our community also includes a 4-H club, with intentional goals towards building character, serving our community, and learning valuable leadership skills.

The easiest way to sum this up in a nutshell, is for you to watch our end of year video that is 2 mins long - it showcases the rich variety of experiences this community enjoys.
